February 2007 Newsletter
AGM
It was good to see so many new members at the AGM on the 25th January. David Houston informed the meeting that the constitution required the committee to resign en masse so we did. David wanted to resign after 4 years as President so was replaced by John Myerscough. David was an excellent President and gave a lot of his time to the organisation of the Half Marathon. He has already done a lot of work in preparation for this year’s race which I would like to thank him for. There were lots of new volunteers to join the committee which is now Ann Malcolm (Treasurer), Judith Dobson (Secretary), Roger Stark, Isabella Carmichael, Gordon Donnachie, Steve Little & Geoff Bilton. The committee are meeting on 12th February to discuss items raised at the AGM and Loch Leven Half Marathon arrangements. Please let a committee member know there is anything you want them to discuss at the meeting.
Devils Burdens
Kinross Road Runners entered a ladies team and a mens team in the Devils Burden hill race on 27th January. This increasingly popular race attracted a record field of 101 teams which included a number of international hill runners. Kinross Road runners were never in contention for the lead so settled for some internal rivalry between the men’s and lady’s teams. The ladies established an early lead which increased to 26 mins by the end of the race. The ladies finished 82nd in 3:42:17 whilst the men were 95th in 4:08:50. The teams are looking forward to a re-match at the Cateran Trail relay race in May!
Training Schedule
Roger sent out an Email showing a modification to the schedule for the next few weeks i.e.:
7th Feb 8 x600m, 14th Feb 2 mile run, 21st Feb Diagonals at KGV, 28th Feb Hill Reps
7th March 8x600m, 14th March 2 mile run, 21st March Parlaufs at KGV.
The Summer schedule will start at the beginning of April. Bill intimated at the AGM that this would be the same as last year i.e. mainly off road runs but this year Roger will continue with speed work on Tuesday night. It has since been suggested that we keep the speed work on Wednesday and move the off road runs to Tuesday. Please let me know which alternative you prefer. We will also include mid week evening races in the schedule as an alternative to training.
Forthcoming Races
I have received notification of a number of races by Email which I have forwarded. These include the Auld Toun 10K (Dunfermline) in May, Alloa Half Marathon (18th March) and the Loch Katrine 12K in April. I have since updated my distribution list to include several new members so please let me know if you want me to forward this information again. I have also received entry forms for Perth Road Runners ‘Heaven and Hell’ Half Marathon on the 8th April and the Edinburgh 10K in May which I have put on the notice board in the Leisure Centre.
Membership
It was agreed at the AGM that the annual fee should remain at £10 for adults and £5 for juniors (16 and under). The annual fee is now due and payable to the treasurer Ann Malcolm. Kinross Road Runners receive discount at Run and Become and run4it in Edinburgh and at Sporting Chance in Kinross, the Scottish Athletics affiliation fee is also less if you are a member of an affiliated club (which we are). Please note that you need to join Scottish Athletics to qualify for the reduced fee at races.
Club Kit
Ann Malcolm has purchased more fleeces, long sleeved t shirts and vests and will attempt to come along on Wednesday nights to take orders (and Membership fees).
