February 2007 Newsletter (part 2)
Kinross Road Runners ventured into the hills on January 27th when they entered two teams in the popular Devils Burdens Hill race. It was a beautiful sunny day for the race which starts at Falkland and progresses via East Lomond, Bishop Hill and West Lomond back to Falkland. Kinross Road Runners were out of their league in a field of 101 teams comprising mainly hill runners so settled for some internal rivalry between the men’s and lady’s teams. The ladies established an early lead which they consolidated to finish ahead of the men in 3hrs 42mins 17secs whilst the men completed the course in 4hrs 8mins 50secs. Both teams enjoyed the race.
The wet and windy weather didn’t deter for Isabella Carmichael and Tricia Milne at the Great Winter Run on 13th January. This 5K race around Holyrood Park was organised in conjunction with the televised European Cross Country Championships although the professionals ran on a different course. Trish Milne was 2nd FV40 in 24:29 closely followed by Isabella Carmichael in 27:10.
Forfar multi terrain Half Marathon on 4th February was the next race on the calendar. This race is a mixture of orienteering on tracks and roads around Forfar so requires some navigational skills. Steve Crawford finished 16th overall in 1hr 30 mins and Chris Pratt finished in 1 hr 38 mins.
Judith Dobson, Anne MacDonald and Sandy MacCalman enjoyed the unseasonably warm and sunny weather at the Carnethy 5 Hill Race on 17th February. Judith was first back to the tea tent in 81:08, followed by Anne in 85:24 and Sandy in 101:13.
