March Newsletter
Forecasts of snow didn’t deter twelve lady Kinross Road Runners from running the popular Arbroath Smokies Ladies 10 mile race on 6 March. The ladies had all
pre entered as the race fills up quickly so they were determined to run. Fortunately the snow didn’t materialise, it was a beautiful but cold sunny day and
the roads were clear of snow. Judith Dobson was first Kinross Road Runner and 12th overall in a time of 72.53. She was followed by Pauline Malley (79.45),
Isabella Carmichael (81.37), Julia Lesley Melville (81.44), Gillian Lopez (83.49), Anne Wilson (87.45), Louise Pryde (91.20), Ann Malcolm and Val (92.12),
Susan Blaikie (97.00), Jean Izatt (103.56) and Karen Quinn (127.45). The ladies were rewarded for their efforts with a half bottle of wine, a t-shirt,
shower gel, an excellent buffet and a nice cup of tea. Judith won some Arbroath Smokies as a spot prize and Julia won a long sleeved t shirt - no wonder the race is so popular!
The weather was kind again at Alloa Half Marathon on 19 March. This is another popular race attracting runners training for London Marathon on 23 April and
included 9 Kinross Road Runners. Gordon ran a personal best time of 1:49:47 which augers well for Edinburgh Marathon in June. Newcomers Sally and Keith also
ran personal best times of 2:11:29 and 2:15:37. Sally and Keith both started running through the Jog Scotland programme which has attracted a lot of new runners
to the sport. Judith was first club runner home in 1:40:48 followed by Gordon, Gill (1:53:30) then Douglas Leitch limped across the line at 2:00 having walked the
last 2 miles with a knee injury. Brian Cook was next KRR home in 2:04:39 followed by Frances McAuley (2:06), Louise Pryde (2:09:18), then Sally and Keith.
Kinross Road Runners Summer training schedule starts in April, this means we will be venturing further afield to take advantage of the countryside around Kinross as
well as some speed work at KGV. It’s a good time to join and start training for Loch Leven Half Marathon on 27 May. Entry forms for the Half Marathon are available
at Loch Leven Leisure Centre or you can enter on line at www.EntryCentral.net.
