March 2007 Newsletter

Firstly I’d like to welcome all the new members to Kinross Road Runners. There was a time when I knew everybody who turned up to training on a Wednesday night but these days there are so many people I can’t remember everybody’s name (or maybe it’s just and age thing!). I hope that you have all made yourselves known to our Coaches Bill Nouillan, Roger Stark and Tony Sweeney. The membership fee (£10) should be paid to Ann Malcolm who will distribute membership cards. Kinross Road Runners get 10% discount at Sporting Chance in Kinross and Run & Become and Run4it in Edinburgh so don’t forget your membership card when you go shopping. Ann also has club kit for sale at bargain prices.

The new committee met on 12th February to discuss arrangements for Loch Leven Half Marathon on 19th May. We now have 115 entries including several Kinross Road Runners and are optimistic that the race will be full (i.e. 600 entries) before the day.

I have received a number of entry forms for races recently which I have put on our notice board in the Leisure Centre. Amongst these is a notice for Aviemore Half Marathon on 14th October which will probably fill up early so you will need to get your entry in soon if you want to run this scenic course. Races in March include Inverness Half Marathon on the 11th and Alloa Half Marathon on the 18th March. Both these races are good training runs for London Marathon (or Lochaber Marathon) on 22nd april. There is also Cupar 5 mile race on 10th March at 15:00.

Please remember to send your race results to the web master (Gordon Duff) at kinrossroadrunners@yahoo.co.uk. If you send your results to Gordon I can access them for the monthly article I write for the Kinross Newsletter otherwise your name will not be included in the article. Talking of articles I was asked to write about the benefits of belonging to a club for an article in MyRace magazine which is out this month. I also sent them a copy of the photo John Myerscough took of some Kinross Road Runners after Perth 10K last year which has been included in the article – I will put a copy on the notice board.

Arbroath Footers have advised us that they are organising the Hartley relay on 18th November this year so we have plenty of time to get our teams organised. This is a friendly inter club event which was initiated by an ex Kinross Road Runner (Graeme Hartley). We need teams of 6 men or 5 ladies (or 5 mixed). Each runner will complete 2 laps of a 1-2 mile course. Last year we managed to get 3 teams and everybody had a good day out so I hope you will all keep the day free in your diaries so we can send at least 3 teams again this year.
