Newsletter 1 May 2007

It was good to see so many Kinross Road Runners and supporters at the PTA 10K last Thursday night. It was a beautiful evening and the post race refreshments were up to their usual standard (I still can’t believe that Anne Wilson got waiter service for her second cuppa!). Isabel has a copy of the results which will be posted on our web site. I hope everybody enjoyed the event and is keen to run another 10K e.g. Auld Toun 10K on 9th May and/or the Edinburgh 10K on Sunday 6th May. I will definitely be at the Auld Toun 10K and am happy to give a lift to Dunfermline if anybody wants one. I have received a lot of race entry forms recently which are cluttering up the notice board in the Leisure Centre. John has suggested getting an A4 holder for the entry forms to make the notice board tidier which I think is a good idea.

The new committee met at geoff’s house last night to discuss a number of things which I will try to summarise:

The club have received a £1000 grant (which John applied for) to purchase 2 flag/banners to advertise Kinross Road Runners. John also submitted a bid for £10,000 to the national lottery fund which was unsuccessful but he will try again.

Loch Leven Half Marathon is only 18 days away (on the 19th May)! We are still looking for helpers to Marshall the event and donations of home baking for the race café on the day. Entries are slower this year than last year however we expect to get 500 entrants and 400 runners, we will take entries on the day if the 600 limit isn’t reached beforehand, on line entries will close on 17th May. We are giving out numbers to entrants on the day from Kinross High School where there will be toilets, showers, changing facilities and a place to leave bags. Volunteers are needed to help hand out the numbers and manage the bag store, please let me know if you are able to help with these jobs. The race will start at 1pm from Brigend and finish at KGV. Volunteers are required to help erect the Finish Gantry and pack the goody bags at KGV in the morning (pleas contact Anne Wilson who is in charge of the KGV and will be there early). The cadets and boys brigade are helping man the water stations but we need extra manpower at the first water station as this is the busiest, Geoff Bilton is collating water station manpower requirements. Swansacre playgroup are organising the Fun Run in return for the profits and it was agreed that the profits of the race café should be donated to the ovarian cancer charity that Isabel has been raising funds for recently. Please contact John Myerscough if you are able to help Marshall. I hope you enjoy the race if you are running and we welcome constructive feedback from participants to help improve the event for all the runners.

This years Championship was discussed and it was agreed to keep it simple and award the trophies to the fastest 10K runners. The 10K course must be a bona fide route accurately measured by Scottish Athletics to qualify.

Geoff and Steve are still looking for runners for their Cateran Trail Team on 12 May, Isabel has a ladies team and Bill has a mixed team. Please contact Geoff or Steve if you can run.
