Kinross Road Runners

There were two club championship races in September, Aberfeldy Half Marathon on the 10th and East Neuk 10K, on the 22nd. The pouring rain made the farm track part of the course of the East Neuk 10K slippery however some good times were recorded and two ladies won prizes. Gordon Donnachie ran well to finish in 46:27 and was closely followed by John Myerscough who finished in 47:05. Trish Milne was 3rd FV in 47:43 and Christine Myerscough was 3rd FSV in 47:55. They were followed by Isabel Carmichael (49:08), Sue Whisler (55:30) and Norman Smith (58:50). Douglas Leitch opted to take the shorter journey to Linlithgow 10K that day which he completed in 43:59.

Conditions were warm and sunny for the Great North Run on 1st October. Four Kinross Road Runners were amongst the 40,000 entrants in the race, the biggest in the UK. The large entry makes it difficult to record a fast time however the race is renowned for it’s atmosphere. Anne Macdonald completed this point to point course in 1:44:05, followed by Isabel Carmichael in1:57:54 and Geoff Bilton in 2:02:04. Anne Wilson helped her niece to run her first half marathon in 2:36:42.

Seven Kinross Road Runners travelled north to Pitlochry 10K on the 8th October. This is the second year of the race and the scenic course through Faskally Woods attracted a field of nearly 300 runners. Chris Pratt ran well in his first 10K to finish 33rd in 40:42, just ahead of Rashmi Shah who finished 45th in 41:50. Gordon Donnachie managed to overtake John Mysercough in the last kilometre and both recorded personal best times of 45:00 and 45:13 respectively. Sue Whisler also improved her East Neuk 10K time to finish in 54:37, followed by Keith Logan (58:01) and Catriona Berry (59:48).

Kinross Road Runners entered three teams in the and interclub Hartley Relay at Forfar on the 15th October. Each runner completed two laps of a 1.5mile course on paths by Forfar Loch. The mixed team (Keith Logan, Sue Whisler, Sandy MacCalman, Allan Kemp, Brian Kemp and Bill Nouillan) were 1st in their category with a combined time of 2:20:35. The ladies team (Emma Barclay, Anne MacDonald, Trish Milne, Pauline Malley and Judith Dobson) won 3rd prize in a total time of 1:43:12. Emma recorded the 4th fastest lap for a lady (9:13), Anne was 5th fastest (9:59) and Judith was 6th fastest (10:07). The men’s team (Gordon Donnachie, Ian Parlin, Chris Pratt, Geoff Bilton, Roger Stark and Steve Crawford) ran a combined time of 1:57:58 and Steve Crawford recorded the 4th fastest lap time (8:29).
