Kinross Road Runners
September Newsletter
I hope that everybody had a good Summer holiday despite the wet weather both in the UK and Europe. The nights are fairly drawing in as they say and the Winter Training schedule starts at the end of this month. This means that there will be no more off road runs on a Wednesday night until next year however we will continue to have an off road option on a Sunday if people are interested. The majority of you seem to opt for the speed work on a Wednesday night anyway and this will continue throughout the Winter and Roger has drafted a training schedule which he will distribute soon. The training schedule also includes a number of races and events worth a mention:
Evening at Loch Leven Larder
Ann Malcolm is hoping to persuade Emma Niven, the owner of Loch Leven Larder, to open on the evening of Friday 26th October for a private function for the club. Emma is an honorary member of Kinross Road runners as she kindly offered us storage for the Half Marathon equipment in one of the big sheds at Channel Farm. Ann organised a meal at Loch Leven Larder for us in January 2006 and it was a good night out so I hope we’ll be able to do it again.
Hartley Relay
The Hartley relay is an annual inter club event which is being hosted this year by Arbroath Footers on 18th November. We need teams of 5 (ladies and mixed) or 6 (men) runners who each run 2 laps of an (approximately) one mile long course. After the race we retire to the club house for refreshments and prize giving. It’s a fairly informal event with a good atmosphere so I hope that we can muster several teams (the more the merrier). John is organising the means teams and Isabel is organising the ladies teams so let them know if you’d like to take part.
Christmas Handicap
This year we are hoping to organise the annual handicap race for Saturday 15th December from 10am and Roger is shortening the course to avoid the shops in Milnathort and make it 10K. The handicap system means that slower runners get a head start and in theory we all finish together. The route will be the same as last year and is scheduled as the training run on 19th September so come along if you want to practice the route. The race is followed by refreshments and presentations in Milanthort Town Hall.
London Marathon
Ever year the club gets a guaranteed entry for London which is handed out after the Handicap race. We were reminded at the committee meeting last week that only people who were unsuccessful in the ballot for the London Marathon are eligible to apply for the club entry. This is something I didn’t know myself so apologies if I’ve misled anybody in the past.
Finally I would like to say thank you to everybody for my 50th birthday present. I was surprised (and slightly embarrassed) when John Myerscough presented me with flowers and a gift voucher for Run and Become from the club. I would also like to thank Brian who composed one of his poems in honour of my half century. I have attached the poem in case you would like to read it.
